The spatial mobility and social fluidity working group relates to the study of mobility in its many dimensions and phenomena by which it manifests itself.

This is of course to assert the sociocultural mobility behavior and to take account of its size and its effects on the organization of society and the spatial and temporal changes it undergoes. To this end, mobility not comprise its sole dimension of transport. It is understood as a movement in space over time, provided that the space may be both physical and social. In a broader mobility context, spatial mobility can take its sense.

Beyond this contextualized understanding of mobility, the group intends to tackle the phenomenon refraining from any monologue temptation, including seeing mobility as a variable intensity only to distinguish “low mobility” of “high mobility.” We propose to consider mobility as a phenomenon which may take different forms that are nested system (commuting, residential mobility, tourism, etc.).

Special attention is also paid to the universe of meaning that give mobility its social values. A pure descriptive approach to behavior is indeed unable to identify the significance of mobility in our societies.

Mobilités spatiales et fluidité sociale is the GT 23 of the Association internationale des sociologues de langue française (AISLF).
